Casino Classic - Auckland

Playing Casino Classic from Auckland, plus the local rules on pokie venues, the city casino, tax and help, in one plain guide.

  • Kahnawake licensed
  • Casino Rewards loyalty
  • Games Global & Pragmatic Play

In short:Casino Classic plays the same from Auckland as anywhere in New Zealand: open it in any mobile or desktop browser, claim up to NZ$500 over three deposits, and you must be 19 or older. Gambling law is national, so Auckland adds only council rules on pokie and TAB venues.

From the city

Playing Casino Classic from Auckland

Whether you are in the CBD, on the North Shore or out in Manukau, you get the same Casino Classic. The full breakdown of games, payments and support is in the Casino Classic review on the homepage; this page covers what matters from here.

The welcome package is worth up to NZ$500 over the first three deposits. Deposit one earns a 100% match to NZ$150, deposit two a further 100% match to NZ$150, and deposit three a 50% match to NZ$200. There are no free spins and no bonus code, and your first deposit has to arrive within 7 days of registering. Unused bonuses lapse after 60 days.

Read the wagering before you commit a dollar. It is 200x on the first and second bonuses and 30x on the third. Slots count 100%, while table, live and other games count 2%, so a pokie session clears the bonus far faster than a blackjack night. Withdrawing before the bonus is cleared forfeits it.

  • There is no app to download. Casino Classic works in whichever mobile browser you use, and a shortcut can be pinned to your home screen.

  • The lobby is built on Games Global and Pragmatic Play titles, with progressives such as Mega Moolah and Treasure Nile.

  • Offers and withdrawal limits are quoted in New Zealand dollars. If you fund or cash out in another currency, conversion costs 2.5% over the interbank rate, so stay in NZ$ where you can.

  • The minimum age is 19, or the local age of majority if that is higher. A land casino asks for 20, covered below.

  • Deposit methods appear in the Bank tab after you log in and depend on your country. There is no deposit fee.

  • Live chat never closes, any day of the year. There is no phone line.

Auckland Council has no say over any of this: by its own description it cannot regulate internet gambling. The rules apply nationwide: they sit in the Gambling Act 2003, which the Department of Internal Affairs oversees.

Pokie venues in Auckland and the council's sinking lid

If you are looking at pokies venues in Auckland, the first thing to know is that the number keeps falling. Here are the official figures.

  • Venues

    201

  • Machines

    2,982

  • Quarter profit

    NZ$71.24m

  • Last four quarters

    NZ$299.1m

Those tiles are the March 2026 quarter in the Auckland council area, using Department of Internal Affairs gaming machine data. Pokies are Class 4 gambling: machines in pubs, clubs and TAB bars. Casinos are counted separately.

Since March 2015 Auckland has lost about a quarter of its pokie venues and a fifth of its machines, while the quarterly profit from the remaining machines climbed from NZ$57.6m to NZ$71.24m. In early 2026 Otara-Papatoetoe, Henderson-Massey and Kaipatiki were the local boards with the biggest profits.

What the council refuses

  • New venues: no consent for any new Class 4 venue, which is the sinking lid itself.
  • Extra machines: an existing venue cannot add any.
  • Relocations: an existing venue cannot move to a new site.
  • Replacements: machines that are removed cannot be put back later.

What it still allows

  • Club mergers: two club venues may combine, but the merged venue gets at most five sixths of their combined machines, rounded down.
  • The same licence: a merger must happen at a place that already holds a Class 4 licence.
  • Existing venues: they carry on until they close.

The policy dates from 24 July 2013, and the council reviewed it in June 2017, October 2020 and March 2024, keeping it unchanged each time. There is no numeric cap and no location rule; the lid simply sinks as venues close, and the council cannot shut existing ones or control their opening hours. Its 2020 review noted that most pokie venues sit in the most deprived areas.

TAB outlets have their own 2013 policy: a cap of 43 TAB venues in Auckland, and no new or replacement TAB within 50 metres of a place of worship, school, early childhood facility or marae. The count had fallen from 34 in 2017 to 24 by August 2020, so the cap has no practical effect.

On the ground

Casinos in Auckland: the one land venue

Auckland has exactly one land-based casino, in the CBD. It sits under national casino rules, with Department of Internal Affairs inspectors based in every casino region.

  • Age 20 and over

You must be 20 to enter the gaming areas, and you need photo ID such as a passport or a New Zealand or Australian driver licence.

  • Open around the clock

The venue lists 24/7 opening, apart from Christmas Day, Good Friday and 3am to 1pm on Anzac Day.

  • Card needed to play

A player card is required for any game, with session, daily and weekly limits you can set.

The venue has more than 1,800 licensed machines, but casinos are licensed nationally and sit outside the council's pokie policy and its sinking lid.

Two different age limits

Casino Classic asks for 19 or older, while the land casino asks for 20. Self-exclusion works separately in each place, so if you exclude yourself from the land venue, also set limits with Casino Classic live chat.

Money and the IRD

Gambling tax for Auckland players

Straight answer: casual winnings are not taxed

Inland Revenue says winnings from Lotto, raffles and prize draws are not taxable, and TAB race prize money is not taxable either. Auckland has no local gambling tax; the rules are the same everywhere in New Zealand.

The one exception is when gambling is a business, a taxable activity run for profit on a regular and organised basis. That is not an evening on the pokies. If your situation looks like that, ask an accountant.

You may read about a gambling duty and wonder if it touches your balance. It does not. Offshore gambling duty has been 12% since 1 July 2024 and is charged on the operator, on its profit from New Zealand residents after prizes. You file nothing for it.

As a point of reference, pubs and clubs hand over 20% of machine profits as gaming machine duty, plus a problem gambling levy. Again that is the venue's bill. Keep a record of your deposits and withdrawals anyway, since the cashier history shows what you are really spending.

Quick fixes

If Casino Classic did not work for you

Open the card that matches what you see.

The page will not open

The casino's domain can change for ordinary reasons such as registrar moves, certificates or infrastructure, so an old link may stop working.

  1. Open the page in a different browser.
  2. Try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or the reverse.
  3. Follow the steps in the access and status guide and bookmark a working address.
Sign-up or verification is stuck

A new payment method can add 5 to 7 days for checks, so slow verification is not always a fault.

  1. Check that your name and details match your ID exactly.
  2. Send what the casino asks for, in the form it asks for it.
  3. If nothing moves, ask live chat which step is outstanding.
My deposit method is missing

Deposit methods are listed in the Bank tab after login and depend on your country. There is no public list.

  1. Log in and open the Bank tab.
  2. Look at the minimum deposit shown in the cashier.
  3. Ask live chat which methods are open for New Zealand.
The welcome bonus did not appear

The package has no code. It needs a first deposit within 7 days of registering, and unused bonuses lapse after 60 days.

  1. Check that the deposit went through in your cashier history.
  2. Confirm you are inside the 7-day window.
  3. Tell live chat the time and amount of the deposit.
My withdrawal is still pending

Each withdrawal waits through a 48-hour pending period in which you may reverse it, then gets processed on the next business day. Cards arrive in about 3 working days, e-wallets in 1 to 3 days and bank transfer in 6 to 10 business days.

  1. Check the minimum: NZ$50, or NZ$300 for direct bank transfer.
  2. Make sure any bonus has been cleared.
  3. Ask live chat if it has been longer than the timeframes above.
Something looks wrong on my phone

There is no app, so everything runs in the browser.

  1. Refresh the page or reopen the browser.
  2. Update the browser to its latest version.
  3. Re-add the home screen shortcut from the working address.

Answers

Auckland questions answered

Do I need a different account or different rules to play Casino Classic from Auckland?

No. The account, the welcome package and the cashier are the same for every player in New Zealand. Auckland Council sets rules only for physical pokie and TAB venues.

Does the council sinking lid affect Casino Classic?

No. The sinking lid stops new pokie venues and extra machines in Auckland pubs and clubs. The council has no power over internet gambling.

How many pokie venues are there in Auckland?

The Department of Internal Affairs figures for the quarter ending March 2026 show 201 Class 4 venues with 2,982 gaming machines across the Auckland council area. In March 2015 it was 269 venues and 3,787 machines.

Can I walk into the city casino at 19?

No. To walk into a casino in New Zealand you must be 20, whereas Casino Classic asks only that you are 19 or over. At 19 you can play online but not enter the land venue yet.

Do I pay tax on my winnings in Auckland?

Inland Revenue says winnings from things like Lotto, raffles and prize draws are not taxable, and casual play is treated the same way. The exception is gambling run as a business. Offshore gambling duty is charged to operators, not players.

What if the Casino Classic address will not open?

Domains can change for ordinary reasons such as registrar moves, certificates or infrastructure work. Save a working address as a bookmark, open it in a different browser or swap from Wi-Fi to mobile data, and turn to the status guide on this site if it keeps failing.

Is there a phone number for Casino Classic support?

There is no phone line. Live chat is staffed every hour of every day of the year. For a payment or bonus question, chat is the fastest route.

Where can I get help in Auckland if gambling stops being fun?

Begin with Gambling Helpline Aotearoa, a free service that answers at any hour. The Problem Gambling Foundation has an Auckland office and free counselling, and Asian Family Services offers counselling in several languages.
